bUsiNEss NEW, iNTEREsTiNG PRODUCTs New energy gases play a major role in our business development. investment decisions in the coming years in new gas technologies will bring new, efficient and increasingly environmentally-friendly solutions alongside natural gas. in January 2010. in southeastern finland, in iitti, another major industrial customer, nonwovens manufacturer Lacell, was the first facility in the municipality to start using natural gas. in June 2009 Gasum extended its letter of intent signed with Turun seudun maakaasu ja Energiantuotanto Oy regarding the delivery of natural gas to the Turku economic zone, which was further extended in february 2010.The final natural gas decision for the Turku region is affected by uncertainty about the development of energy taxation in the coming years. ENERGY TRADE The energy year 2009 was characterised by economic recession and the resulting decrease in industrial electricity consumption and, excluding the very last weeks of the year, above-average temperatures that all reduced gas consumption. The sales price of natural gas went down during the first two quarters but took an upturn during the final quarter. The price competitiveness of natural gas was poor, particularly during the first half of the year. it was further affected by the low price of emissions allowances, which increased the use of coal in energy production. line with its predecessor. The most notable change is the m2010 being divided into two parts, the annual product and the monthly product.The opportunity to make monthly reviews of orders considerably increased the flexibility of natural gas trade, as did the cut-down of shortterm trading orders to one hour. basic gas accounted for 91.5% of natural gas trade in 2009, with extra gas accounting for 5%, the short-term product Gasum Plussa for 2.2% and secondary market trading between natural gas users for 1.2%. GAs ExCHANGE TRADiNG sYsTEm DEvELOPED The Gas Exchange is a Gasum subsidiary which maintains a natural gas marketplace on the internet for natural gas secondary market trading and carbon dioxide emissions allowance trading. secondary market and Gasum Plussa trading take place using the Gas Physical forward (GPf) mechanism where physical deliveries of natural gas are traded at one-hour periods. in 2009 the structure of the Gas Exchange website was revamped to make it more user-friendly, with new functionalities added to facilitate measures such as reporting. in 2009 GPf trading at the Gas New users for natural gas Gasum is constructing a new transmission connection to kangasala in the Pirkanmaa region, with gas to be supplied to local users including one of finland’s leading food manufacturers saarioinen and the local municipal heat utility, kangasalan Lämpö.The letter of intent regarding the supply was signed in march 2009 and the supply agreement New pricing system Gasum was preparing the launch of the new Natural Gas Pricing system, m2010, throughout 2009. Also participating in its formulation was a development group consisting of Gasum’s customers.
