HEatinG customErsHip on tHE incrEasE Heat produced with natural gas is particularly competitive in the parts of the natural gas pipeline catchment area with no access to district heat. The operating model of Gasum’s heat services is designed for maximised customer friendliness. Heat needed by customers is generated nearby, which helps minimise transmission loss. Gasum Energiapalvelut is responsible for all the equipment necessary to produce heat, so the need for investments by customers is lower.The introduction of the heating solutions takes place entirely through Gasum. ENERGY SAVINGS THROUGH REFURbISHMENT IN SUNILA During a period of major growth in the Finnish paper industry, a sulphite cellulose mill and residential area for the plant’s management and workers were built in Sunila, Kotka, in the late 1930s. The year 1969 saw the beginning of the transformation of the residential buildings into owner-occupied housing companies. The original close-knit mill community has been shaped into a diverse suburb that is a fine example of high architecture. Natural gas was introduced at the Sunila area heat stations in the late 1980s. In 2009 the housing company EteläKymin Asunto Oy EKA decided to upgrade its equipment to modern technology level. – The old boiler had served us for more than 20 years, and Gasum gave us an offer that was easy to grab, says Property Manager Lasse Arola. Following amendment work, the new condensing boiler remained in Gasum’s full ownership and control. – As the property manager I can now sleep my nights in peace, although in my experience natural gas boilers overall have fewer faults than oil boilers. We’ve always been pleased with natural gas, but we’re happy to tap into the new savings in fuel consumption, he continues.
