A colourful plant, Lady’s Bedstraw used to be an important dye plant, with its flowers providing a yellow and its roots a brilliant coral red dye. It has also been used as a medicinal plant for kidney and bladder complaints. The Hämeenlinna-Lempäälä pipeline runs west of the Kaskenmäki Natura 2000 site across the Lintustenmäki meadow, a locally valuable nature site. It was impossible to change the routing because of the Natura 2000 site and residential areas, so construction in the area took place with particular care to preserve the traditional landscapes and the habitat of Lady’s Bedstraw. LANDOWNER HEARiNGs The construction of the 40-km pipeline affected 350 landowners, with whom Gasum interacted closely throughout the project. Held in summer 2006, the first discussion and information events provided the route designers with a lot of useful insight into local conditions to help in further planning. summer 2007 saw the landowner hearings required by law. ENviRONmENTAL REPORT COmPLETED The Häme Regional Environmental Centre found the environmental report submitted by Gasum and Neste Jacobs as compliant with the knowledge requirement laid down in the Act on the Environmental impact Assessment Procedure. The environmental report provides a comprehensive assessment of the project’s environmental impacts during pipeline construction and usage.
